Frozen Hose Bib

Prevent Frozen Hose Bibs

A frozen hose bib is never fun. It can lead to extensive and costly water damage and mould issues. In a temperate climate such as Nanaimo’s a frozen hose bib may be rare. However preventative measures are easy to take and may save you a lot of money.

  1. Close hose bib supply valve on inside of home.
  2. Disconnect hose from hose bib.
  3. Open hose bib and allow water to drain.
  4. Leave hose bib open for winter.
  5. If your supply valve has a drain, open it and allow water to drain.
  6. Once water has drained from inside and outside, close drain.

NOTE: You should have a small container ready to collect water from drain valve to prevent water damage to property.
NOTE: If water continues to drip or flow from hose bib you need to have your supply valve repaired or replaced.

At the end of winter simply close the hose bib outside and slowly open the supply valve inside to use your hose bib again.
